For the June 2003 edition of Vanity Fair, she was named as one the year's top teen celebrities. In 2004, Vega produced two short films: Sleepover, and State's Evidence. She was a web-based bullying victim in Lifetime's TV movie Odd Girl Out the following year. The film was a specially-made television movie, titled Walkout. As of 2007, she completed filming Remember the Daze which was only made available to limited theaters. Her filming finished Repo! The Genetic Opera released in the year 2008. 10. Vega was confirmed as the leading character of Helix, written and directed by Aram Rappaport. Helix began filming in Chicago beginning in March of 2008. She was originally cast in The 2009 Robert Rodriguez film Shorts, however, because of her being in Australia for filming Broken Hill, she had to be cast in a different role. Her replacement was Kat Dennings. Penny played her Broadway character in Hairspray. She played Ruby Gallagher was on the ABC Family TV sitcom Ruby & the Rockits in 2009. It also featured Patrick Cassidy, David Cassidy, and Patrick Cassidy. Vega is Wick who is a character from The Devil's Carnival from 2012 directed by Darren Lynn Bousman. Screenwriter Terrance Zudunich was previously a part of Vega as part of Repo! The Genetic Opera. 12. Vega starred throughout 2012 in 2br/1ba directed by Rob Margolies, a thriller directed by Rob Margolies, with Spencer Grammer as well as Kathryn Morris. Vega starred also in The Pregnancy Project on Lifetime Channel as well as completed her animated movie The Clockwork Girl. The Mine was filmed by Vega in the year 2010. It only had a small screening.
